My Akron Soul Train residency couldn’t have come at a better time, right in the middle of a pandemic when live performing artists needed assistance more than ever. The residency aided with the upgrade of our technological platforms, so that we were able to share and develop our music without physically being present. We’ve got over 10-12 songs that we were able to retool and prep for release. It also allowed us to collaborate with another local band (Acid Cats) on a song called “Fear” (currently unreleased) which details some of the plight and disparities men & women of color face in the world. The latest project is a collaboration with Elec Simon on a song called “Learn how to Love” which emphasizes moments of ‘smiling through the pain’ and anti-bullying towards kids that may or may not be as privileged as their fellow students and classmates. There’s a lot in store for July as the country continues to evolve and open up in these unprecedented times. Be on the lookout for our currently untitled 2020 Red Rose Panic project, and the other collaborations listed!” – Alan Manly Jr
